Skype .dmg not recognized by disk mounter

I am trying to install skype on my Macbook Pro. I have no problem downloading the correct .dmg from skype but I click on it ans disk mounter says:
The following disk image failed to mount
Image Reason

Skype_2.2.0.220.dmg not recognized

I have done this before with no problem, please help.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

sorry I meant Skype_2.7.0.3330.dmg

I also tried Skype_2.6.0.140.dmg to no avail.

Any advice on reading .lit documents on Mac? I tried Maclit, lit2html and convertlitosx. No luck:(

Just like "Mailman42" I'm wondering if the download was valid.

I have only seen this kind of problem if the download was not complete, or if the posted .dmg was corrupt itself.

It was complete but could easily be corrupt since I was trying to download in Bolivia (8 times throughout 20 hours). I finally was able to find a U.S. download I had backed up on my flash drive and that seemed to work. Thank you very much for your time answering my question.

I have a similar problem, except it happens with several .dmg's all the time! seems to be a perpetual problem for me.

anyone else suffer from chronic not recognized disk images???

It does not have to be Skype, it can be anything. I get the message often downloading systems updates from Apple. it just happened again - 14 hours of downloading and the disk is "not recognized". There appears to be no solution except to re-download.
It rarely happens when I visit some one who has a high speed connection. Possible theory - latency issues of long-distance and great time make additions or deletions to the file.
