Hi everyone,

I have a movie (bluRay) with 6.5 GB size. I would like to copy it to my external hard drive, however, it says that that is too large for destination. I found out that it was because my Hard Drive is FAT format which supports smaller than 4GB files.

Could you suggest me any solution for that?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Reformat the external drive to use Mac OS Extended. Of course this will erase the drive, so be sure to backup whatever is on it first.

If the drive must remain FAT32, then you will need to use a utility that can break the file into two smaller parts (and reassemble it when needed.) You can find such utilities at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Compressing the file will not work because such files are already composed of compressed data. Compression will not result in a smaller file.
