Safari will only open secure websites - starting with HTTPS

Something has caused Safari to only open secure web sites (ones that start with HTTPS). When I go to any site that starts with HTTPS the page will load. All other pages just sit there with the load progress bar never going up and nothing happening. My internet connection is working fine - all other devices that are connected can access the web without any problems. Anybody have an idea about what could be wrong?

20" Imac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Try resetting safari. If that doesn't work, remove com.apple.safari.plist to the desktop and reboot.

Hi,

Check to see if you have the HTTP proxy selected in System Preferences > Network > Your connection method > Proxies.

If you do, uncheck it then quit and retry Safari again.

Thanks to both of you for trying to help. Not sure exactly what the problem was but when I reset the router to factory defaults and then set it up again everything began to work. It appears the issue wasn't actually with safari. I got a clue to this when Ichat wouldn't work either. Thanks!
