Organizing by Genre

So originally.. I had all my music organized by Genre, then Artist, then Track Names. When I got iTunes it had the "organize my itunes library" on by default and everything got DISORGANIZED. I didn't figure out that it had done that until a day later so I couldn't undo the action. I'm really upset about it because it's really quite a hassle to keep music organized. So my question is, is there a way to have it re-organize my folders by genre, rather than by artist name? I don't care if it's not back to the way it used to be as long as it's by genre. Just easier for me to find things that way.

If you mean the actual folders in the iTunes Music folder, sorry but no, other than manually reorganizing them yourself there's no way to have them organized by genre. If you let iTunes manage your folder, it will (and can) only organize by artist and within those folders by album and there's no "undo" to go back to how you had it. If you want them organized in folders by genre, you'll have to remove all the tracks from the iTunes library listing, turn off the option to let iTunes manage the folder, reorganize the folders as you want them, then use the Add Folder to iTunes option to get the tracks all back into iTunes.

Note that unless you really need to find the actual track files by genre outside of iTunes, you can see things by genre within iTunes, even though the folders are by artist/album. Just turn on the Browser (View -> Show Browser) and you'll see a Genre column at the top of the iTunes window. Just click on the genre you want to view and you'll see all the artists/albums that fall under that genre. Perhaps that would be a workable option for you.
