Airport Extreme not working after firmware update

OK guys, just reporting my status here.

I followed the instructions from goldndoodle and I was able to setup manually my AEBS and no everything is working fine again.

Just as a reminder, I had to hard reset 2 times. The first one didn't do any difference.

If I have a thousand port forwarding rules and I do a hardware reset, I'd need to re-enter everything again, right? no thanks

I'm having the same issue, my 5Ghz only setting just doesn't work, doesn't broadcast anything, setting it back to 2Ghz it suddenly works again.

I'm going to try the hard reset now.

Wow. I had the same problem. I attached to the AEBS via Ethernet and reverted the firmware back to 7.3.2, and the wireless network came back up right after the AEBS rebooted. I didn't even have to do a hard reset. I am thankful it was so easy to fix. Thanks to everyone who posted here!

Glad I came across this thread. I did update the Airport Client on the desktop and it seems to connect faster to the router.

Going to stay on the older firmware until all of this is sorted out. This seems to happen every time Apple pushes out new router firmware.

I downgraded as well and everything is back to normal. I hope apple solves this problem soon.

just save the configuration on the desktop (save copy as) and then follow procedure to reset.

then just IMPORT the x,l you previously saves. very easy.

The 5Ghz network died on my upgrade, downgrading worked for me too, I'm back on 5ghz N.

I have 2x Airport Extreme BSs and 4x Airport Express BSs (bg only). I have two networks in the house, one is "n" only with the Extremes and the other is "bg" only.

Thought readers might like to know that the Extremes updated smoothly. No problem even though one extends the other.

Maybe I was lucky! Maybe my "n" network was not as complex as others here.

Was hit by the can't load the configuration error (-5) after applying 7.4.1. There's no need to downgrade, a hard reset and reconfigure works although aggravating.

You can't save the config if you are getting the Error -5 because the Airport utility cannot read it.

I was able to get into the manual config from a Vista PC that i just installed the Airport utility on.

Still cant into the setup from my macs! I tried deleting the keychain entries hoping that would fix it.

Wondering if this is an issue only with the Mac Airport Utility???

Will try on a Windows 7 pc too and mac mini with a new installed Airport utility report back.

For all those getting the Error -5 cant read configuration(i got this on 3 different macs), I was able to get into the manual config from both a Vista PC and a Windows 7 PC.

Seems like this is an issue with the mac airport utility.

Is anyone getting an error -5 with the windows utility?

I have the same issue, I force reset (pin + replug) and it came back to life, now it is working in 2.4GHZ mode with the new firmware.

I have multiple Macs running off of one Airport Extreme. Yesterday, I completed the Software Update of the Airport Express.

At the end of it, my G5 tower stopped seeing the Airport, and hitting RESCAN did no good.

But my 15" laptop completed the Software Update just fine, and had no problems seeing the Airport afterwards.

So my problem seems to be with the G5 Tower now, and not with the Airport base station.

Both machines are on 10.5.6, but the tower is PPC and the laptop is Intel.

Doing this hard reset does not seem a good approach for me, since the laptop is seeing it fine, and it seems to be working properly.

I wish I could re-download the Software Update for the G5 PPC tower though, although when I ran it, it reported no errors or problems the firs time.
