Capsule 5 GHz lost after upgrade to 7.4.1

Hi all,

I just upgraded my (old) Time Capsule to firmware 7.4.1 this morning. After upgrading
it seemed that my wireless network was not working anymore ( I had my capsule creating
a 802.11n only (5GHz) network). I could not see the network from the macs that previously
worked, nor could I connect to that network.

Resetting . rebooting both the capsule and the macs did not resolve. also reconfiguring the
capule brought no relief. All other functions of the capsule are OK.

When I switch back to 2.4 GHz (802.11n only (2.4GHz)) I saw the network again, and could
use it. So: only 5GHz does not seem to work properly after firmware upgrade ...

Any ideas from the community how to fix this ?
Is there a way to revert to the old firmware, as I need 5 GHz, as 2.4 is overcrowded here.

Apple Heart, no matter what I do, if my Time Capsule's wireless network SSID is hidden, my AE will not connect, but as soon as I unhide the SSID, the AE connects with no problem at all. This is a bug in Apple's drivers/firmware. Hopefully they'll fix it, because right now my AEs are paperweights.

Finally downgraded the Airport Express to 7.3.2, and not it connects no trouble to my Time Capsule running 7.4.1 with SSID hidden. So it's clearly 7.4.1 that's broken on the AE.

I can confirm that *this IS the case*:
• tc is connected to 802.11n @ 5GHZ and is in +wireless extended mode+ (not the main base station) when it tries to connect to a hidden | closed network. THe SSID is not broadcast | SSID is closed network.

I have opened a specific thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1931551&tstart=0 for this issue

any help is greatly appreciated.

looks like a defect in V7.4.1 firmware.

Easy workaround:
I have the problem if i choose "802.11n only (5GHz)".
However, no problem connecting when I choose "802.11n (802.11a compatible)" (which is 5GHz also), and still at high speeds!

Change the channel from Automatic to a lower number eg 36. Hold the option key while clicking on Automatic and select 36. This should fix the problem.

workaround worked at least for me, just change channel to lower, Channel 36 worked for me
to do: when choosing channel that says "Automatic" press alt and channels other than "Automatic" appear in list.

same problem here, updated both my TC and AE with 7.4.1 my TC is connected to the wan.
The AE has the N 5 GHz network whiel the TC lost it. Going to Nb/g compatible fixed it it but is not what I want. SO reveted back to 7.3.2 for my TC and everything works again.
Any solution for this in sight.

I posted in another thread, but wanted to drop in on this one also and say that I just got a new TC with the dual band. I set up the 5ghz option as well and it's now losing it about every 24 hours. This is the second time I've had to reboot all. I've got a 1TB TC Dual band and a AE n as a Airtunes and a internet access for my Direct TV HD DVR. I don't know if I can revert to the 7.3.2 as the original firmware was 7.4 and I ran the 7.4.1 update. This is not something I'm going to be happy putting up with for long. They'd better be watching these post and doing a quick firmware update!

My 5ghz network with hidden SSID is similarly caput with 7.4.1. I wonder when the update is coming out to fix this. Arg!

I may have found something interesting. The last time I had shutdown I made a change in the default channel setting of "automatic" and manually set both my 5ghz and 2.4 ghz networks to avoid any area wi-fi signals. So far it's not gone down and it's been a couple of days. I'll cross my fingers and let you know if it continues to work or not.

Apple QA did everything important - they made sure that the TC is still white, has just the right curves at the corners and still looks sexy - that's all that Apple cares about these days - functioning reliably is definitely a secondary issue! Just make sure it looks good enough to win lots of product placement...

Downgrading to 7.3.2 solved almost all of our problems. Now the only issue is that our Airport Extreme continuously blinks amber and once a day each computer gets a message that there is a problem with the AE that can only be fixed by upgrading to 7.4.1.

Why doesn't apple pull this version??
