Epson Stylus SX600FW

Ok, so i've got the Epson Stylus SX600FW and it works fine when I have the MacBook connected via Ethernet. As soon as I unplug the Ethernet it will not print. I have tried everything from re-installing the drivers to updating to the latest from the Epson website. What is interesting is that my friend has exactly the same setup as me i.e. Aluminum Apple MacBook 2009, Sky Broadband router (NETGEAR DG834G), and the Epson Stylus SX600FW. His has exactly the same issue! By the way the MacBook can can wirelessly without any problem at all.

I have a couple of wireless Windows XP/Vista machines that work fine and can print over the wireless.

I've contacted Apple and Epson support but they are also confused. Seems to be some sort of issue with the wireless part of the Mac not communicating with the printer. It just sits there saying "Printing" but nothing appears on the printer screen.

Any one else experienced this problem as I've managed to recreate it at two separate locations.

Cheers,

Kieran.

Hi, no the router is provided to us by our ISP - Sky Broadband. Its a NETGEAR DG834G. The Epson printer has an IP address of 192.168.0.9 and my MacBook has 192.168.0.6 both on wired/wireless. The router has an IP address of 192.168.0.1. This is the exact same setup at my friends house also (expect for the printer and MacBook obviously).

It did say something in the instructions about ensuring the Mac OS firewall was set to allow the Epson application but my firewall is disabled and set to "Allow all incoming connections".

Cheers.

Hi, I will try this. I have two of these printers at two different locations and used Ethernet to install on both. I installed the first one using Windows Vista and the second with Mac OS X 10.5.6. I will try un-installing completely and using the USB cable directly into the printer from the Mac to see if this helps.

If I connect the Mac via Ethernet to the router then the printer (wireless) works fine.

Thanks for the help, will give it a go.

Are you using the printer wirelessly with Mac OS X 10.5.6? I've just restored the printers factory settings and reinstalled the Epson software using a USB cable. I then took it out when it had finished and configured the network using Ethernet directly into the printer from my MacBook. I then tried the Epson TCP/IP printer that showed up and it just stalled at the printing screen again. I then tried the "Bonjour" version and it did the same. I followed the instructions exactly and have the printer working fine with a Windows XP and Vista machine.

Why oh why did I buy the bloody thing!

Cheers,

Kieran.

Hi mate, thanks for the help. If that is a possibility I think the best place for it is flying out the window! Absolutely useless piece of kit - I don't think I will buy Epson ever again. Surely I cannot have two faulty printers - one was from Amazon and the other from Epson direct. I may just have to return both of the bloody things but can't find anything with the same functionality.

I have just had the problem fixed by the lovely Nathan at Epson UK. It's long-winded, but it worked! Here's the e-mail he sent:

Dear Mak

Thank you for contacting EPSON e-mail support.

I would advise trying the following procedure:
1. Close any applications that are open.
2. Click on the Apple icon and choose System Preferences. Choose "Print & Fax".
3. Highlight the Epson printer in the list and click the delete button [-].
4. If no other printers are installed, in Print and Fax please hold down the Control key and then in the list of printers, click and hold. That should present the "Reset printing system..." menu. Choose this option and confirm.
5. Disconnect the printer from the computer.
6. We will now remove the EPSON Printer driver from the system and delete the drivers that you downloaded.
Go to the Mac Hard Drive/Library/Printer and move the complete EPSON folder to the trash. Warning this removes all EPSON Printers.
7. Also remove any drivers that were previously downloaded to the trash if the file name does not match that from our web site.
8. Restart the Mac.
9. Empty the trash.
10. Now we will run a repair utility that may take up to 30 minutes to complete so please plan for this. Go to Mac Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities and open the Disk Utility. Note: If you cannot find it this way, use Spotlight to locate it.
11. Select Disk First Aid at the top of the dialog box.
12. Select the Mac Hard Drive Icon in the left hand pane.
13. Select Repair Permissions at the bottom of the dialog box.
14. When this has completed restart the Mac.
You will now need to download the driver/s from the Epson website. Please connect to the Epson website via the link below:

http://esupport.epson-europe.com/SupportHome.aspx?lng=en-GB

Download the printer driver for your printer and ensure this starts in the Download Manager. Please try the following to install and add the driver:
1. Locate the downloaded file and double-click it. This should mount a drive on the Desktop. Double-click this and a window should appear with a blue VISE icon. This is the printer driver installer, double-click this icon.
2. Follow the on screen prompts to install the driver, restarting the Mac once the installation has been completed then power the printer on.
3. Start the Setup from CD for wireless install and follow on screen instructions.
