Iphone Turning Volume Down by Itself

So here is my issue. The iPhone will turn it's volume all the way down, by itself, leaving me unable to hear any alerts, phone calls, or alarm clocks. Whenever I use the side volume to turn it up, it will just automatically turn it all the way down. The strange part is that when I use the iPod it doesn't turn the volume down on that. Hence it is basically just turning down general volume (ringtones etc). I am thinking it might actually be a hardware issue. I will do a genius appointment but can anyone give me help/advice? Thanks!!

Hey, so yea i made some progress with the situation. So i discovered that the top left corner is near the module that controls volume. For example if you press down on it hard your volume will flutter. So if it goes crazy i just tap that a few times and it will usually be okay for a while. However, I figured out the main problem was that steam (condensation) was getting into my phone so now that I stopped having that happen it is much improved. I am debating getting a new iphone cuz it is also my alarm clock and in the middle of the night it will at times turn itself down so...but hey man thanks for responding I'm happy i'm not the only one having this problem. Keep me posted. Take care.
