Firmware 7.4.1 troubles

I installed it and now I am having trouble accessing it in configurations.
Anyone else having troubles? It is working as a router but not a wireless.

restored and/or reset everything multiple times, now i'm providing free internet to everyone and their mother since i can't change a single setting or redo the network setup at all. i believe the error messages we're getting that says "an error occurred while reading the configuration...try again" is just a BS popup with a BS "-6728" error code that tries puts the blame on US, THE CUSTOMER since apple themselves don't seem to know how to fix it...and they couldn't get the update right in the first place so what makes me think that even if they do come out with a fix that whatever it is will be just as faulty

I've been suffering disconnects ever since I upgraded. Tried hard reset but that didn't change anything, so I had to unplug the Time Capsule every couple days, sometimes more than once a day.

Reverting back to 7.3.2, hopefully Apple gets their **** together and releases a proper update. I haven't had to downgrade a router firmware since forever, and I used to run OpenWRT on Linksys WRT54GS. Way to go Apple, random hackers have better QA process than you!

man o man, what a frickin nightmare. I just spent probably 6 hours over the last two days trying to straighten this crap out. thank god for this forum because I basically tried everything that everyone posted and finally it worked. i don't even know what the **** i did but it worked. this is the most pi*sed off I've been at apple in 15 years. I didn't do a **** thing, and all of a sudden my airport express starts blinkin' the amber light of death... and my wireless network was totally wiped out by a stupid insufficiently tested firmware update. ****, apple, you're startin to give apple a bad name...come on guys and gals, get your act together!

I agree with all users here - THANK GOD FOR THIS FORUM 🙂 Its all about US helping US 🙂

Ive been macing it since 1992 and have NEVER beeded to "downgrade" before this update - Apple is, unfortunately really screwing up nowadays. Guess thats the price us Mac users pay due to the birth of the iPod generation...

Anyway, downgraded to previous firmware and I have my mighty fast network back again 🙂

I was having issues keeping a connection with my Belkin 802.11g router, so I decided to "upgrade" to the Airport Extreme. I love Apple products and figured wow, a $175 router must be outstanding.

I bought the Airport Extreme yesterday and I'm returning it today after reading this discussion. I've had all the same degradation of performance issues (ie, slowness). In addition, I tried to get the 7.3.2 firmware, to no avail. I used the "Option-Check for Updates" feature in the Airport Utility, selected 7.3.2 and clicked download. Now that option is greyed-out and I have no idea where it downloaded to on my hard drive. I used spotlight and can't find it. The best I can do is go back to 7.4. And that firmware ***** too.

Guess I'm going to go with the Belkin N+ router. Sorry Apple, I really wanted to like this product.

Yes I really wish Apple would read these forums. If they had to use 7.4.1 for themselves I'm sure it would be fixed by now. The two things that appeared to be fixed in 7.4.1 didn't justify leaving it at that version given the instability.

I observed that the following things worked better in 7.4.1:

Performance in an extended network (WDS) environment
Back to my mac disk sharing

But the following things were huge disappointments:

Periodic crashes (after about 2 days, requiring me to unplug)
Only one of my VOIP devices (generally first device to attempt a SIP registration) could do a SIP registration, while the others wouldn't. It appeared that a portion of the NAT implementation broke

I struggled with the new 7.4.1 software for weeks before I read a single comments from another user on this forum.

What helped me was to reset my Ethernet settings to 'Automatic'... not a manual configuration. Doing so allowed the Airport Utility to recognize the configuration file. I duplicateed the problem by setting the Ethernet back to manual... so, the fix, at least for me, is the Ehernet settings set to automatic.

I hope this helps someone... Good Luck!

This is not a firmware update; it's just a new version of the airport utility - the software that allows you to communicate with your airport extreme. I tried upgrading to firmware 7.4.1 using the new version of airport utility (in the hope that the older software was in some way to blame for the firmware problem - bad install??) and this still screws up my network.

So, back to the old firmware and hoping Apple releases a new firmware to correct his long standing mess soon.
