cannot import canon eos 350d raw files

I am having the same problem in addition to the fact that Iphoto doesn't open when I connect the canon digital rebel xt to the computer.
Have you figured out anything?

One note -- I have the rebel XT but bought a Lexar Firewire CF reader and use that to connect and transfer to iPhoto. No problems with that out of the box, but I have not yet tried to download raw.

I realize the Rebel XT is not on the supported list, but it is available from the Apple Store in black or silver for $999.00 with lens.

I also remember seeing a Rebel XT when I visited a physical Apple store in Atlanta.

Maybe they're only supporting Jpeg at this time.

Hopefully, they're working on RAW support for this camera.

There may be some difference that I am not aware of, but my Eos 20D exports RAW files with the same .CR2 extension as the Digital Rebel XT. I've never had a problem with iPhoto not recognizing my RAW files. The only possible difference between my setup and another user's is my use of a CF card reader (SanDisk USB 2) to transfer the RAW files to my mac. Is it possible that the canon viewer utility is corrupting the .CR2 files when downloading the camera?

I have tried importing my CR2 RAW files from my new Rebet XT by using a SanDisk USB 2 card reader. iPhoto did not recognize these files. I had to use PhotoShop CS2, which I downloaded as a demo, to import these files. PS CS2 is very nice, but a little expensive. I may have to use the Canon software unless or until Apple provides support for this camera.

this maybe an insignificant question but what is your rebels communication protocol set to, PTP or Normal? the packaged software is always available.

PTP will allow iPhoto to download (JPEGS ONLY!). It is quite annoying that iPhoto supports RAW from the 20D but not the 350D (Rebel XT).
Canon's own software (Digital Photo Professional) is a last-resort, since it is as slow as molasses.

I am having a similar problem regarding the 350Ds' CR2 format.

This really s..ks that iPhoto doesn't support the XT. Do you think a plug-in or firmware update can fix this limitation?

How can you connect a Canon EOS 20D to an iBook in order to download pix?

I was so frustrated about that too. I just bought this iLife 5 a few days ago (Oct, 9, 2005) because I figured that iPhoto 5 could download my canon 350 raw photos. I like iPhoto because it has nice photo orangization. I wonder after reading this whole discussion why there has not been an Apple personel responses the discussion here. What I am doing now is to use Canon ImageBrowser to convert all my raw into jpeg and then import to my iPhoto Library. It is s..k!
