New iMac and Canon i865 now runs like a dog

Recently got a new iMac. Transferred the setting across from old iMac, which included printer queue. The printer (Canon i865) is working but is very slow compare with when used with old G5. I have the latest driver installed. Any advice would be welcome.

The transferring of the printer queue from the other Mac is probably the cause of the speed issue. I would be inclined to remove the queue and reset the printing system.

Open System Preferences > Print & Fax and remove the i865 printer queue. Then, with the mouse pointer in the Printers list, hold down the Control key and click the mouse. This will show the Reset printing system menu which you can select. Now, unplug the i865 USB cable, restart the Mac and once it is running again, reconnect the i865 USB cable. The printer should automatically appear in your printers list after a minute or two. If it doesn't, then you will have to add it.

If this doesn't help the speed issue, then try a Repair disk permissions, which is available in Disk Utility.
