Application cannot be launched error -10810

I recently started getting these error when I try to launch applications. Further investigation lead to the following:

1) Other threads suggested deleting "/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.xxx.csstore" and "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist" and repairing permissions. I did this to no avail.

2) In reviewing the console log, I found the following repeated almost without stop (though the actual pp cited changed, this was most common):

3/7/09 10:11:18 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.airportd) fork() failed, will try again in one second: Resource temporarily unavailable
3/7/09 10:12:05 AM com.apple.RemoteDesktop.agent[216] LOG: could not launch checkpoint process (fork failure): Resource temporarily unavailable
3/7/09 10:22:04 AM com.apple.launchd[173] (com.apple.PubSub.Agent) fork() failed, will try again in one second: Resource temporarily unavailable
3/7/09 10:26:31 AM dotmacsyncclient[1562] SyncServer is unavailable: exception when connecting: connection timeout: did not receive reply

3) On doing more checking, I found my virusbarrier log also repeating perpetual messages:

Sat Mar 7 10:32:33 2009 [122] - scanFile[1] error starting operation: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/SortPrefixes.plist

4) I disabled real-time virus scanning on Virusbarrier and the problem went away. Console log has not registered in almost 30 mins now.

Any idea what might be going on. I have reported to Virusbarrier folks as well.

Interesting that you should get -10810 (LaunchServices: unknown error) with Virusbarrier. As you can see from this old post: A solution to the 10810 problem, this used to occur a lot with an old version of Virex. But I don't know the underlying reason.

For OSX stuff, I just ignore, since there really isn't anything out there at this time. YMMV, but I use the regular layers of protection such as a router, firewall (both the built-in one and Little Snitch), blocking known parasite web sites via hosts, and running from a standard account (there isn't much that anything can do from a standard account without asking for admin authentication). I'll use ClamXav on the Downloads folder every once in a while, but I don't really do anything that is subject to malware.

I too am having an issue with launching an app, it's the Dropbox one. I have installed and runn it with no issues on an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac running 10.5.6 but it will not launch on an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro also running 10.5.6.

I have contacted Dropbox and they have no idea how to help. The console gives the following feedback...

24/04/2009 10:37:33 Dropbox[472] atos-stderr: atos cannot examine process 472 for unknown reasons, even though it appears to exist.

24/04/2009 10:37:33 Dropbox[472] SIGBUS

24/04/2009 10:37:33 Dropbox[472] SIGBUS

24/04/2009 10:37:35 com.apple.launchd[76] ([0x0-0x42042].com.getdropbox.dropbox[472]) Exited with exit code: 246

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, repaired permissions, fixed launch services, etc. all to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?
