logic 8 trying to use oxygen 8 v1

I tried to do a search for this problem and came up with some hits, but I am still having the same problem. I am using Logic 8 10.5.6 on a unibody mb pro and I have installed the drivers necessary for the midi controller to work. I go under system profiler and the M-Audio Oxygen is showing as a plugged USB device, but I have yet to get Logic to recognize it. I have contacted M-Audio tech support in regards to this issue and am waiting to hear for a reply. After going to M-Audio's website I noticed under driver support that only the newer Oxygen 8 v2 is shown, so I had to google drivers for my version of the Oxygen 8. Am I simply making a dumb mistake? I am new to Logic but have used Pro Tools and other production software for years. Thanks for the help in advance.
