How to setup Behringer xenyx 2442FX

I have acquired a Behringer Xenyx 2442 and I have no idea how to use it.

Please could somebody tell me how to connect it to my Mac so I can use it with Garageband.

Also please could you tell me how i will be able to see the separate tracks I am recording simultaneously.

If you have any other helpful hints then please share them with me.

I have my USB connected to my mac, I have both input and output set to USB. I can see sound going into the mixer from my mics and guitar but I cant seem to see it on garageband. It has recognised the USB but I dont know if ive got it plugged into the mixer right?

GB did recognise it as the device name not just "USB", sorry i should have made that clear. I have tried a new real instrument track and nothing seems to happen. I can get sound when I dont use the USB but as I said I want to split the tracks.

As you can probably tell I am a novice about these things, and im not sure I have the USB set up right with the mixer. Im not really sure where im meant to plug it in.

I can only see channel 1 and channel 2 and channel 1&2.

I can get sound now coming through the USB. I have it set up in the following way: Mixer: AV leads (red/white) in CD/Tape output
USB (U-Control UCA200): in input

I have GB set up as:
Audio output: Built in
Audio input: USB audio CODEC

2 things:

What do I need to use more than two channels?

When I have two instruments plugged into separate channels on the mixer they both come through to the GB channels even when ive selected channel 1 and channel 2.

So what your saying is my mixer will only allow me to have two channels in garageband? Is this the case for other music software packages as well?

Is there a cheaper alternative that will enable my mixer to be recognised in garageband? Or should I just sell it and get a different interface?
