Apple Mobile Device is not started

Hi - When I try to sync my iPod to iTunes, I get this message: This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started. Anyone have this problem and able to solve?

Help?! My iPod cannot be updated until I fix this problem. I already uninstalled/reinstalled. I'll attempt again unless someone has an alternative solution.

Thanks!

Had similar problem myself. Do this:
On Windows XP:

1. Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone or iPod touch.
2. Choose Start > Control Panel.
3. Inside the Control Panel, open System then Administrative Tools.
4. Open Services.
5. Select Apple Mobile Device and click Stop the service (if the option is available, otherwise jump to step 6)
6. After the service is stopped, Click Start the service.
7. After the Apple Mobile Device service has started again, open iTunes and connect the device.
