Using Dynamic Global Hostnames

I am also trying to do this. But I can't figure it out either.
I'm thinking about reverting to the older firmware to see if I can get it working that way.
So far I have not been able to find a good how-to.

The easiest thing to do is set yourself up with a free Dynamic DNS account (dyndns.org) Then, use the domain name as the dynamic global hostname, and enter the username and password of your dyndns account in the username and password fields under the dynamic global hostname field.

When you want to access the disk, in finder under the Go menu, click Connect To Server, enter afp://username.dyndns.org (substitute your own URL).

under older firmware, i got a version of this working. in other words was able to successfully access an airdisk from the road, without having a computer at home powered up.

however, i could never get my ip to dynamically update.

as john.kitzmiller notes above, you can set up a dyndns and give that a try to see if it updates your dynamic address. for what it's worth: i tried it under the previous firmware, but in the end, dyndns did not update my ip address when it eventually changed. so i gave up.
however haven't tried any of this with more recent firmware.

Yep, If you have a MobileMe account. Using the BTMM feature on AEBS is very easy, just enter your account name and password. You don't have to change another settings (including wide-aera bonjour). You don't need to keep one computer running so it can phone home to the dyndns servers when the IP address changes.

How do you get the drive to mount over the internet after you've set this all up? I thought all you had to do was have Leopard on the remote machine and enter your MobileMe info in System Preferences, but I'm not seeing the drive. Do you have to do anything special to connect to it?

MM account and password must be entered both on the AEBS (AU > Advanced Pane) and OS X (Sys Pref > MM Pane).

There other requirement is that your AEBS must be your primary router (is doing the port mapping, make sure port mapping is enabled), so the services (like AirDisk) on your home network can be broadcasted out to the MM server.

Once it's setup, go outside your home network, and AirDisk will appear in the Finder's sidebar under "SHARED".

This is exactly where the MobileMe family account can be improved.

Maybe someone need to use screen sharing to help another member of the family to trouble shoot?

Or even sharing a AEBSs AirDisk like you suggested.

It's working now, however I had to 'Go' > 'Network' from the Finder to see the share. It didn't just automatically appear in the sidebar under "SHARED".
