Safari

I'm running version 3.2.1 and have many sites in my list of preferences. However, I cannot open a site by clicking the address. At a certain point, this feature stopped functioning, maybe I did something by mistake sinceI'm new to MAC. Now when I click an internet address in my preferences list, it remains highlighted as when you want to change a name on a file, but doesn't open the location. Help!!!
