Ipod Classic 160mb & Creative Dock I500

Please can someone help. I was bought a creative I500 dock for my Birthday, although when I connect my ipod you can hear the music the remote which should allow you to go through menus and select music on your ipod does not have any effect.

Also the dock should charge the ipod at the same time but this does not work.
