ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO SEND A FORM AGAIN?

This is extremely annoying. I have the box unchecked for "ask before sending a non-secure form from a secure web site" and the confirmation window still constantly pops up when I merely try to refresh/reload a page. People have been complaining about this since 2005 and there is still no way that I can find to turn the annoying confirmation off.

I am experiencing this annoyance while logged into a correspondence chess web site. I am not trying to buy or sell anything when this happens. I am not putting credit card information into a form. All I am trying to do is refresh/reload the web page so that I can see updated information about how many games require me to make my next move. I really don't need the aggravation when I am trying to play chess with people around the world as a way to relax and get my mind off work.

Apple needs to give users the option -- an effective option -- to turn this annoying confirmation OFF. Since it may be advisable not to have this irritant turned off universally, why not allow -- or, for security reasons, require -- the user to turn it off for one web site at a time. Since Safari keeps track of web sites and their unique login information for other purposes, it should be possible to allow/require users to turn this confirmation off site-by-site. For added protection, Safari can require an Administrator password for each and every such site, display a big red warning each time it is turned off, issue a special warning/confirmation if there appears to be credit card information on the page being refreshed/reloaded, and make the option difficult to locate so that only those who make an affirmative effort to learn how to do it can do it. Surely Apple can treat at least some of us like mature adults who can make informed decisions, on a site-by-site basis, to turn this annoyance off.

As I mentioned above, people have been asking about this since 2005 to no avail. Apple appears to "archive" every thread that gets started on this subject almost as soon as the question is posed. It would be nice if Apple would finally get around to addressing this issue in order to give Safari users an improved experience consistent with the Apple philosophy that technology should be fun to use. Come on, guys! Let me play chess in peace.

I'm having this issue too, and find it annoying as well. I'm new to Mac, been using PCs for years; I would call myself a power user on PCs.

We have a shopping cart app for our website and when I login there via Safari and send a form ("show me all open orders last name=smith"), then the list is returned, and I can look at any of the orders in the list, but when I click "back" I get the two instances of having to say "yes, I do want to send the form again, thanks". Twice.

To the person who said "this is PC-like" I would say that actually, it's not, as I've accessed the shopping cart app for years (in fact, several generations of it), using both IE (several versions) and Firefox, and have never seen messages like this before.

Coding in the shopping cart app? Or coding in Safari? I think I'm clear on the answer.

Love the Mac though! Tons of very useful features, very nice, like "man, someone really thought about this". Having said that, there are things I'd rather do on the PC (and do).

If you go backwards to a page that received POST or GET data, there is a chance that the page acted upon the data and the action will occur again. If the action is an online purchase, you will have made a second purchase. This is sloppy-bad programming practice, but Apple deems it likely to occur and warns you

I personally visit plenty of sites where no online purchases or transactions occur where the double post is a problem, and would greatly appreciate the ability to disregard all further notices from the domain/path

No it's not!! You are either trolling or straight off the Windoze production line. There are no viruses for OS X - full stop. This is clearly a problem with Safari and needs fixing. Please keep letting Apple know of your displeasure with this problem as often as possible via bug report.

Concur with issue - this a 'Resend Forms' thing, having nothing to do with Security. I can find no preference option to kill/suppress it. I access a number of research sites where I submit a query, get a response, then use Back button to submit another query with slightly different info. There is NO double-order issue - if there were, that's my responsibility. This started recently (with latest Safari update ?) and started periodically then become an every-event harassment - as if the Safari "learned" to do this. Problem is multi-site and unique to Safari - does NOT occur on Firefox 3.0.11. this is hugely aggravating and a massive time-waster - I'll switch to Firefox as long as this continues.

This has happened to me a lot too with Safari, but I change MY behavior when it happens on some sites. I just look for the navigation on the web page itself, instead of using the arrow buttons. When THAT becomes a pain, I usually blame the site for being terrible to navigate.
Shopping sites should always allow you to go back to where you were, or even better, not even take you to another page when you plunk something in a shopping cart. J&R music is like that. I press 'place in cart' and the icon on the top nav bar says '1 item in cart' for example. I'm still on the same page and no backing up is necessary. Safari doesn't react because there has been no trip to a cart page (until you really want to go there.)
I agree with those on this thread who say you should gripe to the banks and e-tailers who have sites that are WAY too complicated. That stuff is annoying for ALL users- customers - consumers.

Yeah- this drives me nuts too. It's like the download window not closing itself- which I downloaded a little program to do.

Here's the deal- the specific problem I think the OP is referring to and the problem that annoys the $h!t out of me is this:

I've got a results grid on a page- say search results. i click the page reload button to see the changes my programmers just did to the page. Safari tells me it has to resubmit a form. IT makes me confirm that I want to resend the form again.

I guess this is cool and the gang if you want to make sure that Joe Dumeasse does not re-submit a charge to his credit card by backing up a page, but I am smart enough not to do that on primitive websites anyway. I would very much like this to be a clickable option where it just goes ahead and resubmits the form I just clicked.

does that make sense? Is it possible?

[Insert name of application].dmg contains an application. Are you sure you want to download this application? Hey, let me think about that one for a minute! My computer might explode, or some information might get leaked to North Korea and compromise national security, or John McCain might actually learn to use the Internet and steal all my trade secrets with the thousands of spybots which are contained in this application.

Naw, I didn't really want to download that application...I just did that to see what you'd say.

I guess the developers don't have anything better to do than churn out useless and self-important comments. Jeez, guys, I know you have to make a living, but how about programming something which actually serves people instead of delaying them. If somebody makes a mistake at the keyboard, let that person learn from those mistakes, for crying out loud! The error will be corrected soon enough.

I've been using Safari for years as my preferred browser, and this is a NEW issue with 4.0 for the specific problem of having a pop-up window interrupt the "Previous page" back arrow. It doesn't happen for all websites,and doesn't happen only for secure websites.

This problem is a consistently reproducible when doing literature searches on the federal government website "PubMed" (www.pubmed.gov). I search for the information I need, and it returns a list of responses. Each time I look at one of the links in that list, and then return back to the list, I get the pop-up window. This does not occur for any other web browser, and has not been a problem with any prior version of Safari. It does not go away when I uncheck the "Ask before sending a non-secure form from a secure website" button in Preferences. However, with this button checked, the popup window appears TWICE.

This is not a security issue, nor is it a new customer service issue to prevent people from buying an item twice from the same website. It is a BUG.

I have OS X 10.6 and Safari 4.0.3. It appears that clicking Back to any page that resulted from a form gives me the "Are you sure you want to send a form again?" warning. This happens in Safari in cases where it does not happen in any other browser. For example, using pubmed.com, if you:

1. Submit a search at pubmed.com
2. Click to an abstract
3. Click back to the the search results
4. It shows the warning

That does not happen in Firefox. In Firefox, it instantly brings you back to the search results without any warnings. In fact it doesn't happen on any other browser on any platform that I have tried.
