Anyone else having Bluetooth keyboard problems with new mini?

Just wondering how do you have your mac mini physically setup? For example is it placed up high on a shelf compared to where you use your bluetooth keyboard?
I'm thinking the way the antennas are the signal from the keyboard isn't reaching the mac if that's the case. Try placing the mac lower so that the keyboard has line of sight to the top of the mac.
I had wi-fi problems until I faced the top of my mac towards the router. It's been 2 days and no dropped connection so far.

No particularly helpful I know, but by the length of this thread so soon after launch is looking like there could be a problem...

I bought this new Mac Mini with 2GB ram and the same problem occurs with my apple wireless keyboard. I am wondering if this is with all new Mini's or mine is just defective. I am wondering if I should return it and get a new one and see if it will have the same problem. What do you guys think? I'd have to mail it back though because I have no Apple stores near me. I don't want to keep having this problem with a new machine.

Just wanted to know if your wireless keyboard problems continued after exchanging the new Mini.

Having drop out of apple wireless bluetooth mouse twice is as many days on new Mac Mini 2.26 GHz.
Keyboard also does not respond.
Hit the power button quick jab and it comes back.
Never saw this problem on earlier other 2.0GHz Mac Mini I have.
Or on Dual G5 power mac.
So something is wrong and Apple needs to investigate..

No the problem was also their on the second unit. I finally returned it and got a refund. I think apple needs to investigate this issue. People are also having problems with the Wifi. I have seen some ifixit photos and from that I see that but the bluetooth and wifi share the same card, which is then connected to the main board with a ribbon cable. Its most likely a hardware issue could be a problem with the ribbon cable. But this needs Apple attention, as a fix is required fast. I for one will be buying my first windows pc in 5 1/2 years. I would advise people to take their Mac back to Apple. Only then we might see a fix for this problem.

My keyboard drops connection every 30 seconds to couple of minutes (longest it has kept connection was maybe 5 whole minutes, but thats not definite - I'll get to that in a minute).

Most of the time what happens is I'll get the connect lost icon, then a few keystrokes later it'll connect again (this happens while I'm already typing something - so it's not that I haven't used the keyboard for a while)

2nd most frequent event is that it'll drop the connection, I get the icon, but it won't reconnect unless I press the power button on the keyboard

Occasionally I'll have to hold down (read: more than just a quick tap like the previous case) the power button for it to reconnect

I should note that the entire time I'm using my wireless mighty mouse and only ONCE has it lost connection

The last time it lost connection (this happened just a few minutes ago, I'm writing about this on my macbook), EVERYTHING lost connection and I was unable to resync my keyboard and mouse. The bluetooth icon still showed the bluetooth on/connected icon, but pressing buttons, removing batteries, etc.. wouldn't reconnect my keyboard or mouse. Since I was working on a paper, a hard reboot wasn't an option so I went out to my car to get my macbook and used logmein to take control. Went to the bluetooth icon and it showed that the keyboard and mouse were still connected (even with their batteries removed), once I put the batteries back in, I disconnected them on the mini then reconnected them, then stayed on my macbook to write about this.

It's been about 5 minutes since I last touched my keyboard and mouse, and they are still connected (who would figure the keyboard would stay connected the longest when NOT in use?)

Too lazy to revise or think, excuse me if I rambled or wasn't easy to follow.

edit: I should also mention that it came in on Thursday (3/12) and didn't get around to using it until today (3/15) and it has already lost keyboard connection well over a dozen times. I'll try to use the keyboard with my macbook as often as possible to see if it's the keyboard that is causing the issues just for fun (though I doubt thats the issue considering the amount of results I had when I googled the problem).

I have a mini and it had a similar problem. Intermittently cutting out and what not. I could not figure this out for the longest time until I opened up my mini and I unconnected and did a tight re-connection on my bluetooth antenna and module. After I did that I haven't had a single issue with it, in fact it actually looked like it was fine but the messing with the wires definitely did something good because it works flawlessly!!

I'm having problems with bluetooth too but it is slightly different.

I have an early 2009 mini and the Logitech Mac dinovo bluetooth keyboard. The dinovo kbd and mouse pad work great except when the wifi is under heavy load (like when copying large files from my server to the mini.) My router is a Linksys 802.11g (wrt).

Once the copy starts the mouse pointer becomes very laggy and there is a noticeable delay when typing. Eventually the keyboard will stop working completely, but the OS never says it lost the keyboard connection. The mouse continues to work, poorly.

If I cancel the file copy the mouse begins to work fine again, tho the keyboard still seems sluggish.

Anyone else noticing interference between the wifi (802.11g) and bluetooth?

I have the same issue with a Logitech Dinovo Edge - I've just purchased a new Mac Mini (coolest machine i've ever owned btw) and synced the Dinovo with it, without any problems at all. When i do a cold boot i have to select "connect" for the keyboard to work again.

It works just fine going to sleep and waking up again.

Apple - Help us!

With Wireless (silver) keyboard and Mighty Mouse both. They both drop out at the same time. I am not doing any "heavy" processor tasks.

I connect a USB mouse, and check bluetooth preferences, both items still show as connected. I turn one off and that one changes to disconnected. If I go to Mouse & Keyboard preferences and do a search for new devices (for the one that I turned off), it immediately finds the device (I turned it back on) and both devices are usable again.

Well... my Mini just died completely. Thankfully within it's 2 weeks no quibble return/replacement period.

White screen on power up, but then three consecutive tones (not boot up chimes) and a flashing white power light.

Rang Apple:

"it's dead"

You'd think that after such a delay in getting the Mini updated and refreshed they'd not have rushed/botched to construction so much - the Bluetooth issues do sound like they could be down to poor physical building.

I had a similar problem. My alum wireless keyboard and wireless mm were working with the mini (tiger) until I upgraded to leopard. I suspect that the bluetooth driver from leopard is the culprit but I don't know if this is acknowledged by apple.

If you still have the old mini, confirm that the wireless keyboard can pair and can connect with no problem / drop-off. Then follow these steps with your new mini:

1. Backup the IOBluetoothFamily and IOBluetoothHIDDriver kexts in /System/Library/Extensions

2. Copy the same kexts from Tiger. In my case, I upgraded to Leopard using a new hard drive so these files were still on my old Tiger hard drive.

3. Clear your cache. If you not sure how to do this, download Leopard Cache Cleaner and do a 'deep clean'.

4. Restart and pair your bluetooth devices using Bluetooth Setup Assistant. My Apple wireless alum keyboard and wireless MM paired immediately. They continue to paired after I restarted / shutdown.

Note that if you do software update, apple might overlay the old kexts with newer ones. Good luck.

Well, I posted this already in one of the other "bluetooth problems" threads. The day I got my new mini I noticed that while watching movies the keyboard will drop out but as soon as I pressed a bottom it responded immediately. I also noticed that under any other conditions (not watching movies) it doesn't exhibit this behavior. So I ask again, could this be a power saving feature of the keyboard?
