importing movies from Fuji camera

Does anyone own a Fuji Finepix E550 and have they had any joy using it with Tiger? I've managed to import still images into iPhoto even though the camera LCD insisted there was a communication error, but I've not been able to download movie footage, I've tried iPhoto, Image Capture and the supplied software from Fuji (which doesn't even recognise its own camera connected by USB). Every time I connect the camera it insists there is a communication error.
Does anyone think I'll have any more success by investing in a USB XD card reader?

Not sure of the reliability of xD cards. I have a Finepix S5500 and when I import photos into iPhoto, the xD card is erased even though the delete photos after import box is not checked. Fuji technical support for the mac is abysmal, to say the least. If you do decide to buy a USB xD card reader, I'm sure many of the users of the Mac forum would be interested in the results

I've solved the problem now so I'm unlikely to be investing in an xD card reader. The problem was a combination of user stupidity and badly designed menu settings. Basically hidden deep within the menu settings there are 3 usb options: 1 for direct printing, 1 for webcam (windows only), 1 to connect to computer.
Although it seems like a decent camera the mac functionality is bare minimal. I've got an old cannon A70 which I've got set-up to do timelapse photography with the aid of Automator and applescript, no such chance with the Fuji.

Hello there,

I am planning to buy S5500.
Checked web site for OS X compatibility and it says up to 10.3.6.

So does it mean that pluggin it in wont work on 10.3.9 (which is what i currently have)?

All I need is to have it shown up on desktop as a removable drive just to drag'n'drop pictures from camera to Mac.

Also how does the USB work on Mac with this model? In USB 1.1 or 2.0 mode? Various places say that generally S5500 works on USB 2.0 but does not specifically say that it will transfer files with that speed.

Thank you

It works with 10.4, so presumably it will work with 10.3.9. It won't utilise USB 2 speed, again it should still work.
I wouldn't particularly recommend the camera, it does take decent pictures, though in less than perfect light conditions the autofocus is rubbish, the software is truly awful (tried it, deleted it), it does work with iPhoto and image capture, but I find it very sluggish, whether this is the camera or the XD memory card I don't know?
