Blue question mark.

I recently used google because I was having a problem with images loading up on certain pages. One of the links was to an old answered question. The "answer" was to open us system preferences > quicktime > advanced > and make sure only 1 option was selected.

I have since completed that with no resolution.

Basically what happens is if I hotlink an image from another site the image shows up as a white question mark on a blue square background boarded with two solid black lines.

The picture loads up fine if I boot up my PC, but for some reason....not on a mac. How can I change the setting so that these images will load?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6), Off the shelf black macbook.
