I bought another item and that downloaded OK but the Store -> Check for Available Downloads menu still throws up a dialog saying "The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later".
Like many folks on this thread I find it pretty strange that Apple doesn't have some way of keeping customer up to date w.r.t. issues that are hitting lots of people like this. Just a "Know Issues" page or something. Maybe they do - but I couldn't find it.iMac 24", Mac OS X (10.5.6), Mac Mini, MacBook

May be they fixed it.

Currently Being ModeratedMar 14, 2009 9:26 AM (in response to Streamhawk)No FIX or admission from Apple. Have received email from Apple, they are inquiring about my service provider and connection. I have used iTunes since it launched with the same service provider COX Communications using the same connections, cable modem. Never had any problems until I updated to 8.1
Now, for the 14 tv episodes which I purchased or unavailable for download. The message continues to read. "Unable to check for available downloads. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
How many posts on this forum before Apple begins to notice they have a problem?Mac Airbook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 14, 2009 11:14 AM (in response to zenofmac)This is gonna be a long one!
For over a week now I cannot access content on the music store. Podcast that I'm subscribed to can still download, but I can't subscribe to new ones. I can still search the music store, but I can't buy anything. And I can still play my content bought from the music store. I thought that maybe if I signed out of the store I could sign back in an now I can't sign back in.
It started out that I was getting and error -9813. And I came across an article here saying that there might be a keychain issue. And sure enough there was. I fixed that issue, and back in iTunes, the error changed but the same problem! It's now error -9812, which from what I've found online is something that PC users have experienced but few mac users?
I'm on a macbook, I have updated all my software to the latest versions. The issue started with the previous version of iTunes so I updated to 8.1. I've quit and restart iTunes. I've restarted my computer several times. I've verified my disk in disk utility, and verified permissions and I've even run fsck -fy when starting in single user and none of that made a difference. I deleted all my iTunes preferences and that didn't help. I've even created a new test user account to see if it's my account and I couldn't sign in with that user account either?
It's not a network issue because at least 3 of the 5 macs on my network can all access and download content after signing in with my credentials. And my computer at work can also. So the problem is isolated to this computer. The other computers are still using iTunes 8.0.2 on 10.4.X. I'm updating iTunes on them now to see if that screws things up... OK, my g4 cube running 10.4.11 lets me connect to the music store with iTunes 8.1 and on my ibook g4 running 10.5.6 I can log into my account and buy things. So, the only difference I can see is that the macbook is intel and the rest are power PC.
Also, on an unrelated issue(s), 2 things: when I'm downloading podcasts, ever since I got this macbook, they frequently fail or stop and I have to resume downloading. I've noticed that this only happens with the larger podcasts or TV shows/movies (From when I was able to) I'm trying to download? My G4s never had that happen? And when I connect my iPods (I have a touch 1st gen, a video 1st gen and a shuffle 1st gen) when their battery is dead or close to dead, the macbook actually drains the rest of the battery rather than charge it! I could leave them connected for hours and they'd still be dead. But I plug them into my wall charger or another mac to charge and they start charging right up? Why would that happen?MacBook/iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.3.x)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 14, 2009 11:25 AM (in response to Howard Keziah)I managed to fix my problem and posted the solution in another thread. It involved downloading the update through the Apple website as opposed to updating through software update. I managed to get everything going again but it’s a hassle I could have lived without.various, Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 14, 2009 11:44 AM (in response to Phil_M_07)Well, I tried to reinstall from the downloaded file and it didn't make a difference. I still can't connect! This is so frustrating! Thanks for the suggestion though.
I've emailed the problem to apple also, lets see if they can help!MacBook/iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 14, 2009 1:20 PM (in response to Howard Keziah)I am having the same problem for 3 days now. It is very frustrating as I have purchased some iPhone apps and can't download them. Has anybody either gotten a response from Apple or resolved the issue on their own?
I emailed apple support and received this response (very frustrating):
I understand that you are receiving an error that the iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable when you attempt to download your purchases. I know how disappointing this must have been. My name is Aleasha and I would be happy to help you in any way I can.
Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible. Take care, Jason, and have a great weekend!

Currently Being ModeratedMar 15, 2009 4:44 AM (in response to jfischl)I got almost an identical message!
I find when you write to customer support places they tend to be quite patronising and treat you as though you have the I.Q. of a fence post! The vast majority of people that use iTunes and know how to go about contacting apple and use these discussion forums know how to tell if iTunes is misbehaving. I've had all the usual stupid questions like 'have you checked you're connected to the internet' & 'have you checked for available downloads' - grrrrrrrr!
This whole problem is just getting really silly now and yet apple are really pants at letting their customers know what's going on. I have two downloads available that I just can't access and it's driving me mad so I really feel for people that have purchased whole TV seasons.
Not sure about anyone else but I'm considering asking for a refund on my purchased content as I've paid for something which I haven't received and I'm pretty sure that's against trading standards laws.Intel iMac, 2.66Ghz 2008, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 15, 2009 7:53 AM (in response to WrinklyPepper)For what it's worth - I'm having the same issue, have sent an SOS to Apple tech support (email), and still have heard not response. Trying to watch 24 this way is really frustrating - cant keep up with the rest of the world watching it on real TV. Maybe I'll just try to find it illegally rather than waiting for whenever Apple decides that they are interested in responding to me.
APPLE PLEASE HELP!!! I WANT TO BE A GOOD CUSTOMER, BUT YOU MAKE IT SOOOOOOO HARD!!!Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), silver
No, the store is fine it seems? I've updated to 8.1 on 2 other macs and I can still access the music store and purchase from it! The only difference is that the one that I can't get access on is an Intel macbook and the other macs are both G4s.MacBook/iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
