port forwarding w/ westell D610015

I'm connected directly via ethernet to a westell D610015 DSL modem.

Mac OS 10.5.6

Mac OS firewall off

UPNP enabled on Westell, firewall tested on both "off" and "low" settings.

Services configured to forward needed ports on both TCP and UDP in the Westell service config.

Yet, apps like Transmission will still indicate closed ports. I can't stream out audio on Nicecast even though the ports are set to forward.

Any idea what I'm missing here?

I'm just realizing that I think your talking about two different things... port forwarding, and firewalls..

Firewalls prevent unwanted access to whatever is behind it. Port forwarding only comes into play when your behind a router, and need to tell the router where to send incoming requests.

Since you don't have a router, all incoming requests, except those blocked by the firewall in your router, can only be sent to your Mac, as that's the only place for them to go.

Can you give me an idea of what your trying to do, or what your trying to get to work?

I was more mentioning the firewall info just in case.

What I have are apps that need to connect on a specific port to send and receive. For instance, Nicecast. I'm trying to feed a radio stream out to a stream host. It requires a connection on port 6440 (for instance.) With Transmission, it's assigned a different port number. Yet, any scans or tests built into the software show a "port closed" error and people are unable to connect to the audio stream, etc.

To remedy this, I've gone into the config on the Westell (which is both a modem and a router) and told it to forward the port numbers for the respective apps. It's enabled and set up as per procedure for this model. However, the connections still fail, and I'm still being told by my apps that the ports are closed.
