Showing photos fullframe in iPhoto 09 slideshow

When I run the iPhoto 09 slideshow, my horizontal photos fill the whole screen, which crops the edges of the photo. There is no black border above and below. I would like to see the whole photo the way it was originally cropped with top and bottom black borders. The standard iPhoto, which I was using yesterday before I upgraded, did not crop. I can't find anything in the settings to correct this. I read something on this discussion board about setting the aspect ratio, but I can't find any way to set that either. How do I fix this problem?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

How are you creating the Slideshow?

1. If it’s a quick slideshow where you simply select an Album and press play, then the setting you’re looking for is in the Settings Tab of the controller: as indicated:

2. If you’re creating a full slideshow using the ‘+’ lower left: then the setting is available when you click on the Setting button, in the All Slides tab

Thanks TD,

I did that and set it to 16:9 and it still cropped to fill the screen. I tried the HD setting and I did get a black border above and below, but the photo was still cropped just as before. The only way I can see the photo full frame is out of slideshow and in the edit mode. I click the diagonal line to enlarge the selected photo and it comes up fullframe. Is there just no way to run a slideshow without your photos being cropped?

Hi all,

I found the solution to the problem of photos being cropped in the iPhoto 09 slideshow. Software upgrade. I checked for an iPhoto software upgrade, which there was, and updated it. Once back in iPhoto, I got rid of the original slideshow folder, started a new one and the problem was fixed. Apparently there was a bug, but Apple corrected it.

This is a little off topic...does anyone know how to stop the screensaver from cropping photos from the iphoto library? Ever since I installed '09, my wonderful screensaver will now ruin a nice picture of me and some friends by only cropping one of our faces and then blowing it up really big. It has pretty much ruined the screensaver for me. Who wants to see a close-up of someone's nostrils? Is there a way to prevent this annoying feature?
