iTunes DJ Questions

I think iTunes DJ has definitely evolved the Party playlist idea, but i am bummed to see that the ability to drag-n-drop tracks to reorder them is now gone. it kinda defeats the ability of the DJ to mix the list and it really puts it in the control of the guests.

Why can't we have it both ways?

No, everyone with a phone or touch can Guest login and vote on songs in the DJ list
the more votes a song has the higher it gets in the list.

My confusion come in with the 'Request a song' feature - those tracks get added just under the voted tracks, but if voting is turned off, any requested tracks become the next song in the DJ list.

Seems like an easy way to hijack the dj's choices.

I totally agree! It seems that Apple didn't think about this iTunes DJ very much. It says nothing in the help notes about not being able to re-arrange songs when voting is turned on. And when you turn voting off all of the songs that are requested just go to the next song, rather than maybe having a little popup window saying that this song was requested and letting the DJ accept or deny the request. iTunes DJ still need A LOT OF WORK!!!

i disagree.
how could the software possibly deal with people making requests and the admin reordering manually +at the same time+? Impossible.

instead, if voting is off, the guests are able to make intelligent choices. if the admin doesnt trust the individuals, and opts for a democratic system, then she places herself in that same democratic pool. not only is that fair, but there is no way to program around it (the conflicts would always favour the admin, and guests would be made useless).

I can't quite tell what you're getting at to say that software couldn't handle votes and DJ override at the same time. A DJ is a DJ, not a democracy. It should be absurdly simple to allow voting as well as drag-and-drop up until the moment the current song ends and whatever is at the top of the queue to being playing. Software can do what we code it to do.

In my opinion, guests Should be made useless - they're guests and they're making requests.

Apple is making a weird design decision if the intent is to create some sort of party application where no one person is really in control. I doubt a public establishment would make use of that aspect without a fairly limited playlist.

Brainstorm: Coming next is the ability to vote for the next track by paying $.99 to itunes - that a bar/club gets a cut from. Virtual jukebox!

Using iTunes at a public establishment is most likely not what was intended. In fact, using songs purchased from the iTunes Store for public performance would be a violation of the terms of sale. iTunes DJ appears to be intended for parties.
