I'm about to order a new iMac but i have a few questions about the graphics capabilities. I'm a long time PC gamer but decided i want to make the full switch to Mac. Ideally a MacPro would have been my first choice but im not that rich.
I intend to order an iMac with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB. Will this card handle games pretty well? I play world of warcraft and EVE online.
Thanks for your input.
Macbook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.4.9),
2.16ghz; 256 VRAM, 2gigs RAM
only issue here is that EVE for mac has a graphics bug because of driver issues... I dont know if this applies to the ATI iMacs, but it sure affects my Nvidia iMac. And this is a bug that have been present since EVE was released for mac, and Apple are aware of the problem, but has yet to fix it. So if I ever play EVE for more than background playing or in station use, I always restart into bootcamp, to play EVE there...
Hold off on the ATI "upgrade" for now. There is a major hardware glitch that's causing many ATI-equipped iMacs to freeze and lock-up. Mine seems to be running too hot as well and is going in for repairs to The Apple Store this week. I'll let you know how it goes and whether the solution causes any degradation in performance.
