Turn off phone to listen to music

Hi everyone,

I was curious to know whether the I could turn off the phone (disable incoming calls) and use the iphone for music. Why do that? Well just a concern of preserving the battery. I know from experience with my old ipod touch the battery drained faster with the wifi on and location on too. Can this be done on the iphone?

If you can guess yes im a iphone noob. So if you would like to point me to a portion in the users guide I can read about it. Im just asking because I dont know where to look. I am on track to get a iphone soon and just doing my research about this phone! 🙂
