Can I delete all the *.ipsw files in my "iPod Software Updates" folder?

I have six files that look something like this "iPod1,1 2.0_5A347Restore.ipsw" in my Software Updates folder. Can I delete them? Should I save the most recent one, for any reason?

Although it's not important for answering my question, what exactly are these six files and what are they for?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

You don't need them. They were downloaded when you updated your iPod in the past. Unless you need to restore your iPod those files doesn't do anything for you. And even then you only need the most up to date version. I would say that you should delete them. If, however, one day that you need to restore your iPod again you can always click on the Restore button and iTunes will download one for your iPod.
