Itunes will not let me register my iPod and login to the store times out

I just installed the newest version of iTunes last night after I purchased a 4th generation iPod Nano. When I connect the iPod it shows up in iTunes but the registration page does not have a sideways scroll ball, thus not allowing me to click the proper button to register my iPod. Then when I try to connect to the iTunes store it keeps telling me that I have timed out. This is frustrating and I do not even know how to fix this issue. I did all of the updates to Windows XP last night to make sure it wasn't my computer that was causing this issue.

Thank you for your assistance!
