I just bought my Mac Mini, just switched from PC to Mac. I am unsuccessful printing. The OS recognizes the printer but it just won't print. Please help.
You need to install drivers, of which there probably are none, as Dell has never made their printers Mac compatible.
However Dell printers are generally just rebranded Lexmark printers, so if you can find out which Lexmark model is the equivalent to the Dell, you can install the Lexmark drivers.
According to the Dell specifications, this printer is a monochrome laser and can use PCL 5e or PCL 6. The Gutenprint drivers would work well _
http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php_.
The specifications also indicate that PostScript is supported on the Mac platform. Dell does have drivers available for download.
I followed the link and downloaded Gutenprint 5.2.3 and installed it. I am still unsuccessful at printing. However, my friend can print off of this same printer using his MacBook Pro. Everytime I try to print, an Error light on the printer blinks.
It is possible some there is some corruption in your printing system. Try resetting the printing system _
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341_. Then add the printer again using the Gutenprint Generic PCL 6 driver.
