Bluetooth keyboard and mouse stop responding

Situation: Brand new MacBook Pro 17" unibody, 2.93GHz, 4GB RAM, glossy display. I have paired an Apple wireless keyboard (older model, white plastic not aluminium) and Apple wireless mouse with the MBP. Accounts, applications and files migrated with Migration Assistant from older MBP 17".

Problem: Keyboard and mouse become unresponsive very often. Bluetooth indicates that both devices are still paired and connected but nether mouse nor keyboard activity registers with the MBP. Turning Bluetooth off, then back on seems to re-establish the working connection.

Has anybody else been experiencing this problem. I know, on the previous MBP and on an MB that I still use, if the keyboard batteries become very low, connection with the mouse is sometimes lost. This is not the case here, though. The batteries in both devices still display green.

MacBook Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz 17" glossy screen, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 4GB RAM

I have this issue with a brand new (< 1 week) iMac & Apple mouse/keyboard. So far it has happened twice. I don't have another keyboard or mouse on hand, so my only workaround has been to reboot. I've tried cycling the power on the keyboard/mouse but that doesn't have any effect.

It happened just now, while I was typing this (on another machine). In the mean time, the iMac went to sleep. The power button woke it up and the mouse reconnected.

What's going on? Is there any way to tell? A log file?

I am getting the exact same behavior my MBP is less than 1 week old. I have the software updates. I can turn off the bluetooth and the mouse and keyboard will re-connect and work for a random amount of time and then quit again. I thought it was interference from other bluetooth devices however everyone in the room I am in is using devices connected to their machines.

I have the EXACT same problem. Brand new, 24" iMac with the Wireless Mouse and Keyboard option. It's happened twice to me during the 2 weeks I've had my mac. Only solution I've found is to force a shutdown and restart, then they reconnect. Cycling the power on the mouse/keyboard doesn't help, even putting the mac to sleep and waking it up again won't do it.
It's funny that when I put it to sleep and then hit a key on the keyboard, the mac wakes up so it still knows about the keyboard but none of the keys work and mouse just won't move.

😟

Hopefully there will be a hotfix or a software update to fix this issue. At least now I know I'm not alone.

Similar issue for me, I have a 2GHz Intel Mac Mini, wired aluminium keyboard but I sprung for a wireless mightymouse a couple of months ago. First set of batteries it came with have gone flat already, and after replaceing them with fresh ones, I've been having the mouse disconnect when the mini is sleeping, but I've just now come down the the machine, it was on overnight transcoding some video, and the mouse was completely dead, switch off-on, no light, remove batteries, swap with a pair from my MS wireless mouse, no life, swap back, finally the led is flashing. Find a wired mouse so I can get the **** thing to reconnect again, and it reconnects. This is getting really annoying now.

Similar issue here - iMac 24' 2009 model, with wireless keyboard and mouse. Every now and then, the mouse and keyboard stop working, and I don't get any "Connection lost" message on screen. I haven't been able to establish a pattern on when does this happen. It seems random, such as when writing a document in Pages, or browsing with Safari.

My resolution is to plug in an el-cheapo Dell USB mouse and turn bluetooth off, wait for the "Connection lost" message and then turn it on again. This solves the problem for a while (usually a day).

I realized after the 5th time or so that this is not OK, so I called Apple support and asked them whether this is a known issue. They said no and suggested that I move to the Desktop (so I can put them back on later if needed) all ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth related files. The problem however is that I don't have any. The only Bluetooth -related file I've got is in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ and the Apple representative said that's not the one. I've moved out however the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and rebooted. Well, the computer refused to boot anymore waiting for the keyboard to connect. I plugged in a USB keyboard, rebooted and put the file back on. Now I'm back at square one. What should I do? I don't know. The Apple representative said that I should create a new user account and work in there for a while - if my problems are gone, then it was definitely a software issue. I will try that I think and see how it goes. It's just driving me nuts...

I have the exact same problem.

Brand new MBP 15" and a wireless mighty mouse.

I had the laptop replaced due to other reasons and also called about the mouse issue. Apple sent me a replacement for the mouse too.

Although now I have a completely different set of a laptop and a mouse, the problem still persists.

Hope there is a fix coming up but given that their support team is trying to resolve the problem by replacing the mouse I am not too optimistic.

Fingers crossed ...

Let us know how this test goes.

What I've been doing now is I press the power button so the iMac goes to sleep. Wait 1 minute (if I wait less it won't work) then I hit any key on the keyboard to wake the iMac up and it all works again.

It happens once a day, very frustrating. I don't want to buy the wired keyboard and mouse, too much money. If they sent it to me for free, I'd switch because they are replacing parts so they definitely don't think it's software related. If the issue is with hardware, I'd say it's the bluetooth in the mac that needs replaced and not the keyboard/mouse because that doesn't fix anything.

Just chiming in I have the same problem.
Brand new Mac Mini w/ wireless keyboard/mighty mouse. Once every 3-4 days I'll be typing and suddenly the keyboard/mouse completely stop responding. My only known solution is to hold the power down until the unit shuts off, and start it back up again as I have no wired keyboard/mouse on hand.

same problem...brand new 24" iMac...working on a document and bang, nothing from the mouse or the keyboard...I get it all back just by pressing the power button on the back of the iMac, let it power down, and then push it again (I think this is suspended mode?). Anyway, comes back online with all my stuff still open and the mouse and keyboard work again...

Only thing I noticed that might tie to it is I am using a USB HD for time machine. I noticed this last time that time machine was running (heard the hard drive cranking) when the BT mouse and KB quit...
