How to delete a file from Pages

How to delete a file from Pages

I am unable to delete files from pages. I have tried dragging the file/icon to the trash can and using delete in Edit (delete is grayed out and not active). I have tried right clicking on the file icon. I have also tried clicking on the file icon then using the command key & delete key. I am new to pages.
Are there any suggestions?

MAC OS X, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Thanks for the help. I do not know what or where the smiling MAC face is but you pointed me in the right direction. I opened Finder, opened my documents file, right clicked on the document that I wanted to delete. The drop down provided the option "Move to Trash". It worked. (So now you know how new my MAC is. I just realized the smiling MAC face is Finder. I've used PC's for over 10 years but will never go back to PC's. I love my MAC.)

Close the document in Pages, click on the icon in the Dock with the smiling Mac face followed by the item in the Finder's sidebar named Documents, click on the file, and delete it.

Hi Sharon,

Once you've selected the file(s) in the Finder, you can also move it to the Trash by pressing command-delete.
