Start with this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, when that completes, Reboot.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
It's imprtant to Repair or at least Verify the Hard drive BEFORE Repairing Permissions, if you did in fact do that or the Safe Boot, then try reapplying the big Combo Update...
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
