middle third of screen dark/dim @ startup

I've noticed recently that the middle third of my LCD screen, from top to bottom, seems to be dimmer than the rest of the screen when I first start up my machine or wake it from sleep.

It "warms up" after a few minutes and the screen then looks uniform, but I'm concerned about it getting worse. Any ideas what may be causing this and if it's a serviceable issue? Thanks.

MacBook Pro (C2D @ 2.33 GHz), Mac OS X (10.5.6), 4gb RAM, ATI Radeon X1600

This is 'normal' with a CCFL (fluorescent) backlight - they fade over time (years). That's one of the advantages of the newer LED backlights - they don't fade. With CCFLs, it's a slow, inexorable (and inevitable) process that can only be corrected by replacing the display.

It probably won't get too bad too quickly, though. Also, the 'warm up' time is longer with larger displays (i.e. 17" > 15").

This is not 'normal'! My problem is solved!
I dont know before that something in a System (Preferences, caches, extensions or something else) can cause such problem. But it was the case on my MBP. I only create a new User on my System and the problem is completely gone, no dim part on the screen anymore on wakeup, nothing.
So if anybody else has this problem, try first to create a new User. If the problem not occur anymore it has to do with the system not the hardware.
