Downloading 8.1 is taking a long time

i know that there is probably a thread out there but it's really late and don't have the energy to go through all of it...

so i have downloaded the new version 8.1
after a long time of not updating...(which i think that is not a good choice to do because i have done it before)
the window tab says itunes+quicktime on top
but the "Status:" seems to just pause and stop
i having been running my computer all day and the status has not progressed AT ALL

also, my itunes icon on my desktop is no longer there
it is replaced with the "itunessetup" instead
