Incoming text Messages

From what i have gathered, there is no way to get a longer "ringtone" for incoming text messages. I am in the USMC and we all use text messaging as a work related form of communication. With the short beep, i tend to miss a lot of messages. Anyone know if there is a legit fix for this or if Apple has anything planned?

Also, where would i post this and a 1-beep ringer suggestion?

There is no way to select anything other than the 6 default sounds for incoming SMS messages. If not read, the message notification does repeat.

No one on these user-to-user forums can say what Apple has planned for future releases. Apple is planning to reveal some of the features of the 3.0 software tomorrow, though.

How do you know they are announcing the new 3.0 software on today? Is the software for existing iphone 3g phoens, or will it be for a new iphone?

It repeats the alert after 5 and 10 minutes. You aren't going to miss it for long? if you keep the phone on your person (it is a mobile phone after all) then you won't miss it if it vibrates as well as playing the sound.

When 2.0 was released, it was for both Original iPhones and the (new at the time) iPhone 3G. However, it took advantage of certain hardware features not found on the older phones (e.g. GPS radio).

Tune in 3.5 hours from now to find out what details Apple shares...

Jester set your phone to sound and vibrate. That way if you don't hear it you should feel it.
