Mac Pro was automatically awaken from sleep

My Mac Pro was automatically awaken from sleep.
When I sleep my mac pro, it was randomly awaken from sleep. And then internal bluetooth adapter was disable.... If I try reconnect bluetooth, there was appeared Spinning wheel of death.

Mac Pro is early 2008 model, and MacOS 10.5.6. I was tried PRAM Reset, SMC Reset, etc, etc. But nothing was help me.

I inspect system log. And I found log "USB (EHCI):Port 6 on bus 0xfd connected or disconnected: portSC(0x101803)". So, I changed old USB Hub to new one. But trouble was re-apeeared tonight.

what was matter? how can I resolve this trouble? I attached my system log. please help me.

Interesting, I also have a Mac Pro (Oct. 2007)

It also inexplicably wakes from sleep with:

Wake reason = UHC3 EHCI

I know that the EHCI is the high speed USB buss, but I do not know what device UHC3 is.

It has done this ever since I got it and I have never been able to figure out what is causing it.

I do not have the bluetooth adapter problem though.

I'm also having similar problems. They are intermittent. I'm getting this message in the console:

0xfd is a USB hub, but I'm not sure what's plugged into port 5 (since these numbers are not part of the description in "About This Mac"). I think it might be the receiver for my Rocketfish keypad... I'll check this out and get back to you.

Hm...
I have the same problem, just started a few days ago - but the wake event seems to point to the Bluetooth module:

Same problem here:

MacPro, 10.5.6, no 3rd Party devices connected to any USB bus.
I power off my macpro now, it's not nice to see every morning my macpro was "working" during the night...

Well, I think I found a solution.
I replace my usb hub from self powered D-Link hub to bus powered elecom hub. Then, no more waking from sleep in 3 weeks!!!

But I don't know why self powered hub occurred this problem. Hmmm.... It's mystery. 😟

USB hubs are just known to cause trouble. Even a keyboard has a USB hub. And DLink networking gear has been mentioned in other troubleshooting problems with their routers not being Mac Pro friendly in the past years.

I have no bluetooth devices. All bluetooth options are turned off. I have a 2008 mac pro 10.5.6 I'm using a 23'' ACD. Keyboard and mouse are connected to the 23''ACD
Look at my log. look at the usereventagent- Aqua See how it mentions Time machine, bluetooth, and airport menu extras. I don't have these menu extras turned on nor do I own a airport card or time machine. This all happened at 3:20 am when I was asleep.

I think I may have found the faulty guy!

It is the USB port. I have the same problem. I didn't look at my log but after I read your thread, I simply did this test and it was successful.

I own a HP Monitor w2558hc with two HDMI and one DVI inputs. It also have a USB HUB that give me all the usuals SD Memory card slots plus two USB ports. I was using the USB port to plug my iPhone.

Like you, when I was going into sleep mode, the Mac Pro sometime was waking up without any reason. But in my case, I had a special effect that was very frustrating.

When I was putting the Mac Pro into sleep mode, that action was putting the monitor in sleep mode also. Weird thing was that in sleep mode, the monitor was waking up the Mac Pro. So I had to power off the monitor as quick as I can just after hitting the sleep mode on the Mac Pro.

After having read this thread yesterday night, I tried to unplug the Monitor USB HUB connector from the Mac Pro USB port. Then I put the Mac Pro in sleep WITHOUT powering off the monitor. Everything was fine! The monitor goes into sleep mode as well and never wake up the Mac Pro. I just move the mouse and bing, everything wake up as a charm!

Put that back in sleep mode for the night. This morning, every one were still sleeping like child's.

Isn't bad? These SD cards slots were starting to be interesting with my new Nikon D90 camera. It was easy to import from the SD card into Aperture just picking the memory stick and putting it into the slot. Mac Pro was mounting it right away! Not to mention the iPhone with its private USB plug from the monitor side. Like no words is perfect!

Now what do I need more, sleeping well or use the extra USB/SD card connectors?!?!

I wonder if plugging in a PCIe USB card would cure this?

USB hubs are and have been the plague with Macs for years, it changes, hides, goes away - only to return. With a vengence. And maybe some of the blame is the makers of USB hubs - your Apple Cinema Display is a hub, the Apple keyboard is also. And the HP and some Dell monitors.

Problems with some external hubs definitely as well.

My Mac Pro (2008) has been running just fine with the current setup running 10.5.6, after the update to 10.5.7 it just goes to sleep only to wake up a few seconds later (Port 8 on bus 0xfd, connected or disconnected PortSC).

Hardware has not changed, not even the way the USB devices are plugged in ... yet since 10.5.7 this keeps happening ... 😟

As suggested; removed the power of my USB hub (have been suing this one for more than 2 years now without a single glitch) - problem solved ... Apple what did you do?

You guys might try to go find the USB Prober or IORegistryExplorer from the xCode kits, it is the only way you'll easily figure out what those random devices are.

UHC6 is bluetooth certainly, but the others on are all unique to your setups.

I thought I could just try waking my computer up by manipulating various USB devices and look at the console. I am guessing that is flawed logic as I have never been able to manually re-create the errant UHC3 wake event.

Am I at least correct that EHCI is the Apple high speed USB bus?

Regrettably, I am unfamiliar with xCode kits.

You are right, EHCI is the high speed USB bus, UHC is also a USB interface.

Hey, I found out you can download USB Prober outside of xCode, it is on Apple's developer website.

Not sure if this link will post or if its the same version that came in my xCode install, but its a probe only, doesn't modify stuff:

There's some more advanced USB Debug toolkit stuff available that tangles with the kexts, but it is very advanced (and can break things)...not sure how comfortable you are in Unix?

Todd - could you post up more of your log entry? Maybe I can glean something out of it, the next few lines after that wake event would be needed. Basically up to the line:
IOBluetoothHCIController::terminateWL .. done

While I'm not sure about your user event logs, the first item in that list "EHCI:Port 6" is something plugged into your USB line...some USB device woke it up.

I can't tell you want from the logs... (for me, my CyberPower UPS is on USB EHCI Port 6) You can try the same USB Prober program I mentioned above to find out what it was.

Once you start the program, click the "IORegistry" tab, then select "IOSerivce Plane" from the dropdown menu next to the refresh button. From there you can scroll through the USB list. Unfortunately, its not as straightforward to tell what is plugged into what, but it works kind of like this:

So if you see on that list, you can see Port #6, "GS 1285U" is my UPS.

I don't have anything reported on my UHC3 so I don't know what you may have plugged in there.

Unfortunately, the port layout for 2009 Mac Pro's isn't in the USB guide so far ( http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechUSB/Articles/usbimplementation.html)
