Safari not working on iphone 3g but mail is ok...

When I try to browse the net I get the following error message:
Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding.
The mail application however is working normally. Does anyone know what is causing the problem and is there a solution?

Try a reset. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the slide to power off prompt).

I've tried that but it doesn't fix anything. I've also tried resetting the settings but this doesn't help either. Any other ideas?

Does this occur with all websites (e.g. google.com, cnn.com)? How are you connected to the internet? Via Wi-Fi? 3G/EDGE? If via Wi-Fi, is it your network, or someone else's?

I'm on a 3G connection and have tried several different sites but nothing loads. I don't have wireless internet so I haven't tried using safari through Wi-Fi. What annoys me is that my email is updating normally so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the connection or the safari application. What do you think neuroanatomist?

The two things to try would be a Restore via iTunes (you won't lose data/settings if you restore from backup), and contacting your carrier.
