Using DVD Video for Events?

Before I got a mac, I had a set top DVD burner, that had a firewire input. So, I burned most of my videos from my camera, directly to DVD. Now I want to take those DVDs, and import them into iMovie. I know there are lots of tools out there. But, when I search, it's all about circumventing the copy protection.

What is the easiest way to get DVD's into iMovie, when there is no copy protection involved? Can I just drag the video over? (Obviously it is not that easy, or I would have already done it 🙂

Thanks in advance,
