Sudden volume increase problem

I went running with my new shuffle this morning, and after about 25 minutes the volume maxed out. I think it's because some sweat got into the headphone controls and shorted the volume increase button. Has anybody else had an issue like this?

Yup. I've had this happen @ the gym the past two days. I definitely think it has something to do w/sweat getting into the earbud control switch. I had a similar problem w/my g2 shuffle. Once you get a little sweat down in the earbud jack on those things, the sound will distort.

The solution I found on the g2 was to blast a little bit of compressed air through the ear jack. Thinking I'm gonna try that on the g3 earbud jack and control switch - my theory being - once sweat works its way into the sucker - it's leaving behind residue and/or attracting dirt that makes it more likely for trouble to repeat...

Add another one of us to the list! Same problem, 3 of 4 times in the gym with my new G3 Shuffle, after the sweat begins, the volume shoots way up, then I lose control of the volume for a while, and can't increase or decrease volume. Resetting the shuffle doesn't help. Letting it dry off for a while does seem to help, but like others, I'm really disappointed!! I have an iPod touch that I was using... the SOLE reason I bought the shuffle is for the gym, and it appears to be fairly useless there after the first 10 minutes or so.

Apple, you need to solve this issue, and then replace our shuffles!!!

I am also experiencing the same problem as everyone else on here, got my shuffle on Monday and its been sticking on high or low volume after a few minutes workout!

It was a lot worse yesterday and seemed to not recover like the previous days so i tried the old hairdryer over the controls trick and it SEEMS to have cured it, until i am go to use it later at the gym of course! ill try the aforementioned 'loop trick' and see if that helps, otherwise i will have to send back for a refund and either wait for a fix of this issue or try another alternative player.

Shame, because despite this BIG flaw, it is actually a really nice product to use!

Just got back from trying it out again at the gym, same as before after about 10 minutes running... Just had a bit of a look at the earphones though and somehow there is a lot of moisture actually on the jack although how it gets there im not sure because it looks nearly water tight, maybe i will attempt to make some sort of a cover to go over the top of the ipod and jack to seal it!

I have also had problems with the volume surging after 15 mins on my exercise bike. I returned the Shuffle to the Regent Street Apple Store yesterday and got a replacement. It was the first time the genius had seen this issue (obviously doesn't read the support discussions...).

I've also upgraded to the 1.0.1 firmware, but doubt that will help as the problem appears to be moisture in the control buttons. The suggestion to tie a loop in the cable is simple, but brilliant. Hopefully this will fix it until Apple come up with waterproof buttons.

I am a runner and have a similar problem. After building up significant sweat. The remote control becomes unresponsive to ANY presses. I do not have a problem with volume control going up. If I turn the shuffle off and back on, it will start playing correctly but the remote control is unresponsive. After a few hours, the control comes back to life, I assume because the moisture has gone away.

I am both surprised and disappointed that apple did not 'test' this headphone under exercise conditions before releasing. This is reproducible and very disappointing when I was running a 1/2 marathon today and my ipod stopped functioning.
