I went running with my new shuffle this morning, and after about 25 minutes the volume maxed out. I think it's because some sweat got into the headphone controls and shorted the volume increase button. Has anybody else had an issue like this?
I bought the in-ear headphones for my iPhone 3G and I got random pause/play presses (the other buttons have no effect on the iPhone 3G) after a 20 minute run. Extremely annoying, more so for brand new $80 dollar headphones. The next day they were working fine.
Will Apple exchange them for this? Will a new pair not have the problem.
Apparently using your ipod while exercising is outside of what apple considers normal use. Glad I gave up after being told keeping my touch in my pocket while it was playing caused excessive heat buildup and was not covered by the warranty.
Sarcastic yes, but not at all surprised at the QA/design failure after the excuse I got from a "genius" about why my ipod touch popped apart when the battery swelled to twice it's normal size. I consider myself lucky that the battery failure I experienced was nowhere near as bad as others' I've read about and I was not hurt.
well add another gym user to the list. Had my silver one about a week. Not more than 15 minutes into my workout the volume drops way down and i can not get it to work after that. I have been using the original 512MB shuffle since about 9 months into its introduction, and it still works great.
I bought a silver 3rd gen & a blue 2nd gen [1GB] @ my local Best Buy to see how they both compared to the 1st gen. So now i am defineately going to return the 3rd gen until they can figure things out. The 2nd gen seems to work fine. Although, I have to say that it was nice that the 3rd gen plays lossless acc files, which 95% of my music is....
One would think moisture tests would have been more thorough??????
Before you return it, try wrapping some plastic wrap (Saran wrap, etc) around the controller and use a piece of tape just above the controller (the side closest to your head). Low tech but it will work and you can continue to use lossless.
Eck..This is a low tech solution, but there shouldn't need to be a low tech solution to a high tech piece of equipment. They should have done quality testing on this product before putting it out on the market.
Right, we should not need to wrap in plastic a set of $80 headphones. And if you use this on your iPhone, it will cover the microphone hole. Not good.
I'll try it anyway.
I am having the same issue with moisture. The volume either goes really loud or really soft. I called Apple today and they're sending me a replacement.
Sticking with the principle of never buying the first of any new model is it likely that Apple would have ironed out all the problems in this first run of 3rd generation shuffles by the middle of this year, in particular (hopefully) moving the inline control to a more sensible position further down the earphone cord?
I'm relieved to see that others are having the same problem here too...I use mine walking to class everyday and have no problem, but later on in the day when I take it to the gym it craps out after 5-10minutes or so.
Addressing the 3rd party adapters, at the Apple Store the other day one of the Geniuses told me that there will be an adapter that will plug directly into the headphone jack, that has the same control system as the current headphones, but will also have a headphone input so we will be able to use any set with the new shuffles - no timeframe on this though...
