Buzzing sound while charging iPhone 3G

I have a 15-inch macbook pro that I recently noticed has started making a very slight buzzing sound while my iPhone 3G is plugged into the left USB port (next to the place where the charger plugs in).

The noise appears to be coming from the charge port itself. If I unplug the charge cord, the buzzing stops. If I unplug the iPhone USB, the buzzing stops. It only buzzes when both are plugged in at the same time, and it's not a constant buzz. It will buzz for a minute, then stop for a minute, then buzz some more.

I usually manage to get the iPhone all the way charged before the buzzing starts to drive me up the wall, but I thought I would ask here to see if anyone can explain what's going on.

I haven't tested to see if it buzzes when it's plugged into the USB port on the right, because that's where I like to have my mouse.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
