does the first gen iPod not have an exteral speaker like the new iPod??

meant to say to play music, as when I hit play the is no sound but my mate has the new ipod touch and when she hits play she get the music

Chris, as you know the 1st gen iPod touch does not have an INTERNAL speaker. Neither the 1G or 2G have an EXTERNAL speaker, but both work with docking external speakers.

It think the OP meant INTERNAL speaker (as you answered). Just trying to make things clear for other readers.
