UDF conversion

UDF conversion

I have several DVD disks that are formatted in UDF,(universal disk format). iMovie or Quicktime are unable to open these DVD's so I am unable to edit the clips I want to. Can anyone tell me is there is a work around so that I can import to iMovie and edit. Have looked for a plug in for Quicktime but no luck.

UDF is the format used for DVDs that play in DVD players. Such discs don't have any clips that can be opened with iMovie of Quicktime.

How were your DVDs created?

The DVD's that I am trying to use with iMove were converted from some old video cam tapes that I had. i did not have an AV converter, so had some one convert these tapes for me from analog to digital. I did not know that they would end up in the UDF format. I can play these DVD's on my Mac and in my DVD player but my problem is how am I going to edit these old movies and burn some new DVD's seeing that Quicktime or iMovie does not recognize UDF format. Beginning to look this may not be possible.

The UDF format isn't the issue.

Your disc have only multiplexed MPG-2 content that can not be used by iMovie or QuickTime.

You will need to use something like DVDxDV ( http://www.dvdxdv.com/DVDxDV.overview.htm ) to convert the content of your discs to something that can be opened by QuickTime.

Thanks for your help. Have down loaded the try out version and it appears to be working, a bit time consuming but will wait for the first conversion to be done and then will go from there.

you'll realize some (dramatic) loss in quality, because a video-dvd uses a very lossy compression codec (mpeg2)

EVERY dvd for a dvd-player is udf.......
