Text Message to a none 10 digits phone number

Hey Guys,
This might sound silly but does any one here knows why I can't send text to a none 10 digits number ?

Every time I try it I get an error back but there is no issue when I send it to a regular 10 digits number. I'll appreciate any info provided.

AT&T requires it to be a 10 digit number ONLY, it's a GSM network.

You just type the SMS short code number in as the number you are sending to, like 12345 for example. Don't worry about the hyphen it puts in. If it's a valid short code you shouldn't have any trouble. Then type the message or key word in the space for the message. I do it all the time with no trouble.

Perhaps if you explain exactly what you are doing and what happens we can assist more.
