You can't disable the built-in camera, but to select an external video source instead of it you should be able to set this in the applications preferences section ... what application(s) are you using ?
Ahh OK, well if you start PhotoBooth and use the iSight then connect your external cam and run Macam it will see it then. Bit of a clunky work-around but then Macam isn't the greatest software 😉
Most video based applications will have a Video Settings element where you can chose the Input.
Macam works fine for using the USB cam, but nothing else will see it. PhotoBooth works fine with internal cam. It will not see the USB cam no matter what order I open which app and connect/disconnect the USB cam. Can't get any other apps to recognize the USB cam, they only see the internal cam. Do you know of an app which will let other apps see the USB cam?
