What is a dual-link DVI port?

I have a DVI port in my ancient Powerbook G4 that I use to connect an LG LCD monitor. Can I use the same cable to connect the LG to a 2009 Mac Pro or do I need some type of adapter?

Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.1), 1.25 GHZ, 1GB Ram

As far as I know, you only need "dual-link" DVI if you are connecting a 30" monitor. If your LCD is smaller than that, the ports on the PowerBook and the Mac Pro should work just as well for that monitor.

I bought a 20" Apple Cinema monitor (it has DVI) originally to use with my PowerBook G4. It's now attached to my Mac Pro, no adapter needed just plug it in to the Mac Pro DVI port.
