Display sleep time won't change

It seems no matter where I set the slider for "put display to sleep" in energy saver my monitor still sleeps after just a couple of minutes. The same thing goes for my screen saver. The problem is very annoying when trying to watch short videos off YouTube etc. Half way through them the screen goes black and either sleeps or starts the screen saver no matter how I change the settings.

Any ideas?

I copied this off some other discussion (forgot where!):

"If you are having a problem with things potentially related to Energy Saver, try deleting the following files and restarting your computer.

-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)

-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist

A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones."

- Note: I would just move those files to the desktop or someplace. if that doesn't help you can always replace the newly created ones with the old ones to regain your previous settings.
