You can't. MicroMV uses Sony's proprietary system with MPEG format. iMovie wants plain DV.

In theory you should be able to download the material and convert it to DV with MPEG Streamclip but I'd recommend getting a real DV/D8 camcorder. MPEG Streamclip www page has more info about how to download material from the camcorder.

Using (more or less) primitive third-party software and quite a lot of hands-on for each import, it's doable.

You can also use a DV converter and run your microMV analog to the DV converter.

In both cases, the quality is less than a compatible miniDV camera, due to the higher degree of compression in microMV.

My advice is to get a miniDV camera instead.

If your DV camera has analog in, you can use that as a converter.

How without hardware?

The hardware you need is described in the article. Just pretend (while you are reading) that your MicroMV camera is a VHS recorder and it should be clear what to do.

I don't know how to do it without hardware. I only heard about others doing it, but I don't know any details.

Has anyone heard if Sony is going to create a way or allow a way for the micromv format to be used on macs? I'm sure you all know, but there is a petition to Sony to make this possible.
